After months of research, field documentation, and collaboration with Marty Bent and the TFTC team, we've published The Home Mining Playbook: Bitcoin Miners as Building Energy Infrastructure.
It's a 40-page document. We think it's the most complete field guide to building-integrated Bitcoin mining published to date.
What It Covers
The playbook is organized in four parts.
Part 1 makes the case from first principles. Buildings have heating loads. They pay for that heat whether Bitcoin is at $30,000 or $300,000. A miner running on the same electricity produces the same heat — and earns Bitcoin doing it. The playbook introduces the Useful Miner framework: the right question for a building owner isn't whether a miner is profitable in the industrial sense. It's whether it's more useful than what you're already running. For a lot of buildings, that bar is easier to clear than most people assume.
Part 2 is the tactical playbook. Hardware selection, five distinct integration methods (from smart zone heaters to hydronic and radiant configurations), and how control systems manage a miner across heating season, solar surplus, and straight mining modes.
Part 3 covers the economics with four real installations as case studies: a 2,400 sq ft Colorado home with gas backup, a 900 sq ft home running entirely on hashrate heat, a high-altitude mountain home that replaced a 40kW electric boiler, and a 5,250 sq ft commercial venue with three HVAC zones. Real installations, real data.
Part 4 is the implementation section: a step-by-step checklist from initial assessment through hardware procurement, installation, and ongoing monitoring. Regulatory and tax considerations are included, along with how to get started with Exergy directly.
